His dad told him about a house he had considered getting for the foundation, but it had too much land. Maverick took a look and fell in love with it as soon as he walked in the front door. The banker did warn him, though, that the prior owner’s family might be a bother, but Maverick loved the house so much that he’d take it anyway.

Jade told Gracie that everyone was helping out Jenson’s brother, Maverick, move some stuff into his new house. Gracie agreed to tag along.

“What are you doing?” He thought that it was obvious but told her any way that he was kissing her. “Why? I mean, do you have any idea…well, of course you don’t. You just take what you want, don’t you?”

“No. I would have waited for an invitation to kiss you, but I don’t think that you would have given me one. I was hoping…no, that’s not right. I was going to beg you for more, but right now, you have a tight grip on my hair that tells me you’re not happy with being kissed. Is it me? Or do you have someone else in your life?” She told him that it was all him. “I see. Was I too pushy, you think?”

“Do I think you were too pushy? Yes. You were. Why would you kiss a total stranger without knowing a bit about her?” He said he had only ever done that the one time with her.

Cliff seemed to be a good man, but she’d had enough of men to last her a lifetime….

Lander was good at her job. What she wasn’t good with was people, most people, in fact. Especially attornies who weren’t prepared when they cross-examined her as a witness. She didn’t care. She had work to do. Leaving the courthouse was the last thing she remembered when she woke up in the hospital.

Happy to have finally found his mate after all these centuries, Hamish, an ancient vampire, had been following her scent all morning. Not only his skin but where her fingers were touching his. He could feel the iciness of her anger like it was his own. Closing his eyes to the onslaught of not only her anger but every memory that she’d ever had. He could only wonder what she was getting from him…
